Re-examine justice by Zeng Chengjie case

Zeng Chengjie, a Hunan businessman, who ever committed financial fraud. He was sentenced to death by the Changsha Intermediate People's Court, and the court of appeal upheld the decision. After that, the case came into the death penalty review stage. His daughter was not satiefied with the result and decided to make an appeal. However, what the family didn’t expect was that Zeng was executed on July 12 and his family was not informed.

According to the regulations of The criminal procedure law of the people's Republic of China: in the implementation of the death penalty, the court shall inform the criminal that  thet have the right to meet with their close relatives. If the criminal files an application, the people’s court shall notify their close relatives. If their close relatives apply to meet them, the people’s court shall permit, and promptly arrange a meeting. All of these provitions embody the “respect for and protection of human rights” spirit of the law. Therefore, Changsha Intermediate People's Court's approach in this case is clearly illegal.

Although Zeng Cengjie is guilty, and the sentence is correct, the program of execution is illegal. It breaks through the bottom line of human relations and also shows the judiciary’s contempt for the law. China is a legal state, but in this stage, there are still many problems. Fairness and Justice is not only relying on the legal system to reflect, but also the procedures to reflect. So we should re-examine justice by this case.
